Poulton Football Club was founded in 1959 and originally played at Betty’s Grave on land belonging to Lord Wigram. The last match played at Betty’s Grave was on 21st April 1979 when the club moved to Englands in the centre of the village.
The club competes in the Cirencester League and enters the Glos FA Intermediate Cup, the Cirencester Senior Charities Cup, the Arthur Shipway Cup, the Stroud League Charities Cup and the Fraingdon Thursday Memorial Cup. In the 2015 – 16 season the club won the the Stroud Charities Cup 2-1 against Leonard Stanley Reserves and were runners up to Lechlade in the Arthur Shipway cup, losing on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Centre forward Steve Andrews won the league top goal scorer trophy for Division One. Poulton were league champions in the 2002 – 03 season and finished seventh in the league last this year.
